You Are Always Growing at Mahindra AFS!
I have been watching the company grow along with me. What more can I ask for?
After working for ten years with some major competitor brands, I was offered a role in a new project at Mahindra Reva in 2013. One company that I worked at in the past was a process-oriented firm while another gave me some freedom to experiment, but still the feeling of working in Mahindra Reva is beyond all experiences. My first project was one with a small scope. Eventually, I ended up expanding and coming up with new ideas and today, I am at a senior manager level responsible for the development of not only new parts for the upcoming automobiles, but also shaping the way the company is embracing new process in the digital era. At Mahindra AFS I am not just an employee. I own the work that I do.
Electric cars are a big hit in today’s era where global warming has reached an alarming stage. People are recognizing the need for a change in the fuel of cars and hence the concept of electric cars are still upcoming, but a definite hit in the market. The transition from conventional to hybrid to electric might be slow, but it is definite to happen. I analyzed this and came to the conclusion that this experience will be something new and this is what I need in my life.
I was inclined towards entrepreneurship duties in the company. Mahindra AFS explores its employees in all possible fields. There was a time when our team of middle manager’s was given a challenge to solve a business problem. The way we handled the situation was appreciated and also our recommendations were bought-in. I felt extremely proud of myself and I recognized my affinity towards the corporate profession.
I experimented my skills in entrepreneurship when I was given an opportunity to shape up a complete department. It was an entirely new experience and I had to put myself in the shoes of a HOD and frame up the department. The activity involved hiring of all the staff, setting up management processes and providing apt infrastructure for the functioning of the department. This was the task which is normally entrusted to an experienced senior position who has a long term strategic vision for the company.
That was when I realized how Mahindra AFS believed in non-hierarchical organization structures and equality. There were no limitations to anyone regardless of their fields or ranks. One had the freedom and support to explore any prospect that intrigued them. I hope I am successful in passing the baton that I inherited to my hard working team.
Being a role model is not all pleasure. People look up to you and you have to live up to their expectations. I am usually confronted by my employees with queries regarding ways to deal with the suppliers or the process we need to do within the organization. I would preach my fellow colleagues what I believe, is the outcome should be for the best interest of all the stakeholders.
On the external front with the suppliers, I guide them to adorn a stakeholder relationship rather than customer-supplier relationship without compromising ethical boundaries. This has gone a long way is establishing professional rapport and on many occasions, the supplier willing to support even without any commitment from our side.
Internally, on the process front, I guide them to map the process value chain of the desired outcome and eliminate the repetitive or non-value add without compromising the financial / legal requirement.
Mahindra AFS is the perfect destination for anyone who is interested in exploring their potential in a professional environment. This is the apt destination for them to bring in fresh ideas and explore them growing. One word of caution! This is not a training ground but a real workbench to put your heart & soul.
Growth is a must at Mahindra AFS. Is growth a must at your organization too?
